We would like to inform you that, in response to the coronavirus outbreak, the EU Commission has launched a request for expressions of interest entitled “SC1-PHE-CORONAVIRUS-2020: Advancing knowledge for the clinical and public health response to the 2019-nCoV epidemic”, with a budget of €10 million.
The funds for this action are drawn from the budget line for the “Mobilisation of research funds in case of public health emergencies” in the SC1 work programme 2020, which foresees that “in case of a public health emergency, research grants may be awarded in line with specific provisions that allow the awarding of grants without call for proposals in exceptional and duly substantiated emergencies”. Furthermore, the grants will be subject to rapid data sharing clauses to ensure that research findings immediately inform the public health response.
- The deadline is 12 February 2020.
- The thresholds for each criterion will be 3 (Excellence), 4 (Impact) and 3 (Implementation). The cumulative threshold will be 11.
- Funding per proposal is expected to be around €2 to 3 million.
- Beneficiaries must make their research data available; therefore the relevant option of Article 29.3 of the model Grand Agreement will be applied.
All relevant information has been published on the participant portal
Several international funding organisations in addition to the European Commission have recently announced their financial support for accelerating research to tackle and contain the 2019-nCoV epidemic. Under these exceptional circumstances, we would like to share with other funders a short summary with essential information about applicants’ submitted proposals to allow a coordinated, efficient response and ensure that each funding institute’s support is adequately placed. Hence, we would like to ask each applicant to write a summary that succinctly highlights the following aspects of their submitted proposal:
- 1) Name of coordinator,
- 2) Objective of proposal (100 words),
- 3) Expected results (100 words),
- 4) Timeline of proposal, and
- 5) Key partners.
This summary should be included in the submitted proposal but will not be included in the evaluation of the proposal. This information will be shared with the other funders through the GloPID-R network.
In addition to the FAQ posted on the participant portal (https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/portal/screen/support/faq/12733;type=1;categories=;programme=null;actions=;keyword=), please note that the short summary of the submitted proposal that will be shared with other funders should be included in Part B, section 4-6 of the proposal, under the title “Annex for funders”.
